It starts with a sketch It starts with a sketch We sketch the idea here or you can bring in a drawing of your own like this customer did.
Create CAD model Create CAD model We create a 3d model using CAD and virtual sculpting software.
Realistic renderings Realistic renderings Computer renderings of the model are created to illustrate what the final piece will look like before the piece is actually produced.
Set up CAD file for 3d printing Set up CAD file for 3d printing To successfully 3d print the model, supports must be added to overhangs and areas that may cause the print to fail.
3d print model 3d print model The 3d printer slices the CAD file into hundreds of individual images and prints layer by layer in order to build the physical model that is used in the casting process.
Prepare the 3d print for casting Prepare the 3d print for casting The supports are removed from the model in preparation for casting.
Spruing Resin Spruing Resin Wax sprue rods are attached to the model and the flask base to create a pathway for the molten metal to travel.
Attach Flask to Base Attach Flask to Base The metal flask is attached to the flask base and holes taped over for pouring investment.
Investing Investing Investment powder is mixed with water, vibrated in a vacuum chamber, and poured into the flask. The invested flask is left to set for 6-8 hours to harden before starting the burnout process.
Burnout Burnout The flask is placed into the oven to burnout the wax sprues and resin model. The temperature in the oven reaches up to 1400F to ensure complete burnout of the resin.
Lost-wax casting Lost-wax casting After burning the model out of the hardened investment, the molten metal is then poured into the cavity.
Cool down Cool down The flask is set to the side to cool down so that the metal is not red hot when quenching.
Quenching Quenching The hot mold is quenched in water to remove the investment from the newly cast piece.
Raw casting Raw casting After quenching the raw casting, the sprue is removed to be remelted for future castings.
Preparing the casting Preparing the casting The raw casting is then filed and polished in preparation for setting gemstones.

Finished piece Finished piece Our in-house jeweler cuts the seats and carefully sets each of the gemstones securely in place.
